                                    31Signing of a Letter of Intent between the Association of Arab Universities and UNESCO Regional Offce %u2013 Doha to Promote Sustainable Education and Green CitiesAssociation of Arab UniversitiesHis Excellency Prof. Amr Ezzat Salama, Secretary-General of the Association of Arab Universities, and Mr. Salah Khaled, Director of the UNESCO Regional Oflce for the Gulf States and Yemen %u2013 Doha (UDO), signed a Letter of Intent to develop the Green Univer-CITY Project, aimed at supporting sustainable education and enhancing the role of universities as environmentally friendly institutions.The project aligns with the Association%u2019s commitment to green universities and reducing the carbon footprint of academic institutions. It seeks to strengthen partnerships between universities and the private sector in the transition toward sustainable educational institutions and cities, while generating and disseminating knowledge on green universities and cities through research, seminars, and conferences, in addition to organizing site visits and experience-sharing meetings.His Excellency the Secretary-General emphasized that this cooperation reffiects the Association of Arab Universities%u2019 ongoing commitment to Arab communities, by developing sustainable educational and research environments that foster innovation and support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 %u2013 Quality Education and SDG 11 %u2013 Sustainable Cities and Communities.The project also serves as a platform to leverage international technical expertise through UNESCO, ensuring the transfer of global best practices in sustainability and environmental governance, while empowering Arab universities to play a pivotal role in advancing sustainable development and serving communities at the regional level.
