16Preparatory Meeting at the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education to Discuss Implementation Plans for the %u201cArab Higher Education Area%u201d InitiativeAssociation of Arab UniversitiesOn Monday and Tuesday, October 7%u20138, 2025, a preparatory meeting was held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Republic of Iraq to discuss the implementation plans for launching the %u201cArab Higher Education Area%u201d initiative.The initiative is led by the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Association of Arab Universities (AArU), and the Arab Organization for Education, Culture and Science (ALECSO). It aims to enhance mutual recognition of academic degrees among Arab countries, facilitate academic mobility for students and faculty members, and improve the quality of higher education across the Arab world.The meeting included representatives from the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, headed by Prof. Dr. Bahaa Ansaf, President of the University of Baghdad, and Dr. Hazem Baqer Tahir, Director General of the Department of Scholarships and Cultural Relations; a delegation from the Association of Arab Universities, led by Prof. Dr. Anas Ratib Alsoud, Executive Director of the Association, accompanied by Prof. Dr. Walid Salameh, Advisor to the Association, and Mr. Ahmad Atwa, Financial Director; and a delegation from ALECSO, headed by Prof. Dr. Mohammad Abu Darwish, Director of the Department of Science and Scientific Research.
