Towards a More Advanced Arab Ranking: Steering Committee Meeting Witnesses Launch of New Website and Updated Criteria

On Monday, May 5, 2025, the Steering Committee of the Association of Arab Universities held its meeting, attended by several members and experts specialized in the development of higher education across the region.

During the meeting, the Secretary-General of the Association of Arab Universities, Professor Dr. Amr Ezzat Salama, highlighted the significance of university rankings and their vital role in enhancing the quality of higher education and boosting the competitiveness of Arab universities at both regional and international levels. He noted that rankings are a strategic tool for encouraging academic institutions to pursue excellence and sustainable advancement.

Prof. Anas Rateb Al-Saud, Executive Director of the Association of Arab Universities, presented a comprehensive overview of the newly launched Arab Ranking for Universities website, emphasizing its key technical and interactive features designed to improve data accessibility and transparency.

The meeting also marked updates to the ranking criteria, aligned with global standards for assessing university performance while considering the academic particularities of the Arab region.

This initiative comes as part of the Association’s strategic vision to promote a culture of continuous assessment and improvement within Arab higher education institutions, in line with global developments and with the aim of elevating the international stature of Arab universities.
