Sadovnichy said: %u201cThe signing of this agreement to establish a Russian%u2013Arab university consortium for the creation of an orbital telescope dedicated to the search for extraterrestrial life represents a cornerstone in launching one of the most ambitious space projects in recent years. For the first time in history, universities themselves are the initiators of such a large-scale scientific program. It is of fundamental importance to us that our partners in this endeavor are our Arab friends%u2014an acknowledgment of the rich Arab legacy in astronomy, mathematics, and navigation, and a contribution to the agenda of the first Russian%u2013Arab Summit, which will be held in Moscow on October 15, 2025.%u201dThe project will establish a scientific consortium bringing together Arab and Russian universities to coordinate scientific and engineering efforts, with the following objectives:1. Designing and launching an advanced optical space telescope by 2030.2. Studying the atmospheres of exoplanets and identifying potential worlds capable of hosting life.3. Promoting engineering education and STEAM fields through the involvement of students and researchers.4. Strengthening international academic and research cooperation in line with the principles of open science and international space law. This project represents a historic milestone in Arab%u2013Russian cooperation in space exploration and a strategic opportunity to enhance the role of Arab universities in advancing the study of the universe and leading future scientific discoveries.
