The Secretary-General of the Association of Arab Universities (AArU), Prof. Amr Ezzat Salama, participated in the International Symposium on Arab and International Scientific Cooperation in Research and Innovation at Sohar University in the Sultanate of Oman.Prof. Salama expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the organization of this important event and to Sohar University for hosting it at a time when the global landscape of research and innovation is undergoing significant transformations. He emphasized that this symposium reflects a shared commitment to scientific research and innovation as fundamental pillars for achieving sustainable development and building a knowledge-based economy.He also extended his thanks to H.E. Prof. Rahma bint Ibrahim Al Mahrouqi, Minister of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation of Oman, for her continuous support in advancing research and innovation in the Sultanate. He praised her dedication to enhancing scientific collaboration between Arab and international academic and research institutions, which contributes to sustainable development and the creation of a future driven by knowledge and creativity.Scientific Cooperation: A Necessity for Knowledge-Based EconomiesProf. Salama highlighted that given the challenges facing the Arab region and the world, scientific cooperation between nations is no longer optional but rather a necessity for building knowledge-based economies. He referenced global reports indicating that countries investing over 2.5% of their GDP in research and development (R&D), such as South Korea, the United States, and Germany, achieve higher economic growth and competitiveness.
